How air conditioning works
Air conditioning works by circulating refrigerant through coils. The evaporator coil absorbs heat indoors, while the condenser coil releases it outdoors via compression and expansion, creating cooler air indoors.
Indoor Unit
These units are positioned at an elevated level, ensuring an even distribution of air throughout the room. They operate quietly, ensuring that your sleep or enjoyment of your favorite Netflix show remains undisturbed.
Outdoor Unit
These units extract heat from the indoor space and expel it outdoors. The outdoor component can be mounted on an external wall, placed on a roof or balcony, or situated on the ground within your property, such as in a garden.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Can I connect my air conditioning to WiFi so I can control it via my smartphone?
-
It is possible to connect an air conditioning system to a smart thermostat so that you can control it via a smartphone app, just as you would your heating.
Via the app, you can either manually switch your air conditioning on or off remotely, allow it to come on or switch off when set temperatures are reached, or program the system so that it comes on and goes off at a particular time.

Following my air conditioning installation, how often do you recommend a service?
-
Servicing frequency is influenced by how often the equipment is used.
Following a domestic air conditioning installation, Barnet Climate Control suggests a service once every 12 months. For commercial air conditioning systems that are used daily and year-round, we recommend a service visit around 3-4 times per year.
It is beneficial to have your air conditioning serviced regularly. It will improve the reliability of the equipment, enhance its efficiency, ensure peak indoor air quality, and help avoid the need for emergency repairs. -
Why is air conditioning beneficial?
-
An air conditioning system is designed to supply cooled or heated air to a room or building. The system is fitted with filters which help remove particulates such as dust, pollen and pet hair from the air, and the cooling process also helps to dehumidify it, reducing the chances of damp and mould growth.
Air conditioning is known to give indoor air quality a boost, providing a more comfortable, healthy environment in which to live or work.
Finally, air conditioning can boost property value, and make a property more saleable. -
Can air conditioning be used as heating?
-
A lot of today’s air conditioning units are fitted with heat pumps, allowing them to be used for
heating as well as cooling. Many systems are very economical to run in comparison to other forms of heating. -
Will my air conditioning be costly to operate?
-
Air conditioning is generally very economical in operation, particularly for the long term. However, costs can differ significantly from one installation or brand to the next. Various factors will influence these costs, such as the length of time the equipment is left running, and the heating and cooling loads.
If you are worried in any way about the energy efficiency and running costs of your air conditioning installation, Barnet Climate Control’s friendly specialists will be only too happy to offer individual guidance on your system of choice. -
Will my air conditioning be noisy in operation?
-
Contrary to popular belief, air conditioning is actually very quiet in operation. Should you wish to install a system in your bedroom or home office, you can choose a model with an ultra-low noise setting.
-
Can a domestic air conditioning system be used in a commercial building?
-
The equipment used for commercial air conditioning is a lot larger and more powerful and complex than domestic systems.
The reason for this is that commercial spaces are more often than not larger, and generally prone to temperature fluctuations due to frequently opening doors. This means the cooling process tends to be a lot more energy-intensive.
Commercial air conditioning systems also require bigger drainage systems, because they expel a higher volume of moisture. They’ll also need to be serviced more regularly.
Whether you require commercial or domestic air conditioning installation, Barnet Climate Control possesses the qualifications, knowledge and experience to recommend the most suitable system for your needs and budget. -
How long will it take to install my a/c system?
-
This will always depend on the job however on average, we will aim to complete the installation for a single split system within 4-5 hours.
We will always have two technicians on site at a minimum, which helps speed up the process and improves efficiency.
Some jobs will take longer due to complicated pipe runs, which we will explain beforehand.
